Nutcracker Magic
Since George Balanchine’s version of the Nutcracker began, audiences have been flocking to this annual tradition for decades. Every winter this timeless classic has become a holiday staple for families to experience around the globe.
Drew Thomas forged the role as Herr Drosselmeyer for BalletMet in Columbus, OH under the direction of John McFall. The magic was no longer imagined but made real! An immediate success, magic has become a vital element to Act 1 driving the ballet throughout.
Artistic Director and CEO, Paul Vasterling of the Nashville Ballet called upon Drew Thomas to infuse their Nutcracker with his magic touch. “Audiences have been amazed and so have I! Every time, every illusion, absolute amazement! This is just the beginning”, say’s Mr. Vasterling.

Drew Thomas practices a unique and original school of illusion. By using ordinary objects everyone can relate to, he changes our preconceptions towards “magic”. No smoke, mirrors, or exotic animals. Instead, Drew relies on his arsenal of spray paint, metal, gears, wood, and power tools.
